Examination of glucose
1) Glucose as a reducing agent

Required: 2% glucose-solution; Fehling-solution I + II; BB; test-tube; - holder

Procedure:

Fill 2 [ml] of glucose-solution into a small test-tube and add further 2 [ml] of each Fehling I and II. Warm carefully until colour change.
Attention: Fehling solution is strong basic. To avoid damages never hold the open end of the t.-t. in the direction of your neighbour! - Do not boil! (delay in boiling)

Observations? - Conclusions?

2) Chain and ring structure

Required: 2% glucose-solution; Schiff`s reagent; ethanal; t.-t.

Procedure:

Fill 2 [ml] of ethanal into a t.-t. and add dropwise Schiff`s reagent.
Give 2 [ml] of glucose-solution into another t.-t. and add again dropwise Schiff`s reagent.

Observations? - Conclusions?

3) Enzyme-Test (GOD-Test)

Required: 2% -solutions of each glucose, fructose and saccharose; glucotest-strips, 3 small beakers

Procedure:

Fill into each beaker a small amount of sugar solution (beaker 1 with sugar 1 etc.)
Hold for a short moment a Glucotest-strip into the solution.

Observations? - Result?
